Disney: Dos and Don’ts
Disney World is a magical place that attracts people of all ages from around the world. From the thrilling rides and enchanting shows to the delicious food and stunning parades, there's something for everyone to enjoy at Disney. However, to make the most out of your Disney experience, there are some important Dos and Don'ts that you should keep in mind. Here are some of the most important ones:
DO: Plan Ahead
Disney is a massive resort, and there's so much to see and do. To make sure you don't miss out on any of your favorite attractions, shows, or dining experiences, it's important to plan ahead. Make a list of the things you want to see and do, and plan your days accordingly. Consider using Genie+ to reserve your spot on popular rides and attractions ahead of time.
I recently went to Disney over the summer with my sisters..right in the middle of July. We planned for about a week, discussing what rides we need to go on, what rides we save for downtime while waiting for our Genie+ ride reservations, where we want to eat (make lunch reservations as early as possible), what we need to wear…
EVERYTHING!!!
When I say plan ahead, I mean plan ahead. Somehow we were able to go on every ride we wanted to go on (Space Mountain TWICE!!!), and then some. We even had downtime. All in ONE day. The My Disney Experience App aided in our day going so smoothly too.
DON'T: Overdo It
While it's important to plan ahead, it's also important to pace yourself. Disney can be overwhelming, and it's easy to get caught up in the excitement and try to do everything in one day. However, this can lead to exhaustion and burnout.
Make sure to take breaks, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. When we were there it was almost 100 degrees. Water was key! One of the benefits of the extra time we had was the fact that we had the time to go cool off on an indoor show or ride. It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mickey's Philharmagic Concert, and Carousel of Progress were life savers! Great places to go when you need a break from the sun and can still enjoy the magic of Disney World.
DO: Dress Appropriately
Here is where I made a few mistakes. I'm including this in here so you do not!
Please, please, please pay attention to what shoes you are bringing on your trip and wearing to Disney!! They need to be comfy, but also have enough support. I had blisters covering the bottom of my feet afterwards and could not walk for two days because of the sneakers I wore. Do not be like me. Think it through and pick good shoes.
I also recommend bringing a poncho. Florida weather is very unpredictable. It poured on us towards the end of the day and though it was very refreshing, you do not want to risk getting sick. I also say bring ponchos because the ones they sell at Disney are kind of pricey. It was $10-12 per poncho. Grab a pack from the store and bring it with you just in case! Save that money for a sweet treat or a souvenir!!
One more thing: Sunscreen and hats! Re-apply every 30 minutes to an hour. I put sunscreen on every second I could (mostly because it gave me a half a second to cool down) but I was bright red before lunch time anyways. Bring a high SPF spray sunscreen and a sunscreen stick to minimize the damage to your skin.
DON'T: Be Rude to Cast Members
Disney cast members work hard to make sure you have a magical experience. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. It's important to be respectful and polite to them, even if you're having a bad day.
DO: Try New Foods
My top two treats I went into Disney thinking about was Dole Whip and a giant turkey leg. These will forever be my favorites. We also got to have lunch at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant. The portions are huge. If you go, I recommend trying the Garlic bread appetizer and the Tiramisu Cannoli. Sometimes I wish I could go back to Disney just to eat there again.
DON'T: Cut in Line
Nobody likes a line-cutter, and it's especially frowned upon at Disney. Cutting in line is not only rude, but it can also get you kicked out of the park. Wait your turn and be patient - the ride will be worth it.
DO: Take Photos
Disney is a magical place, and you'll want to remember your trip for years to come. Take lots of photos to capture your memories. Consider getting a Disney PhotoPass to take professional photos of you and your family throughout the park.
Any rides you go on that take a picture of you will show up in your My Disney Experience app as well. You can purchase them in there or after the ride!
DON'T: Ignore Safety Rules
Disney rides and attractions have safety rules in place for a reason. It's important to follow them to avoid injury. Don't stand up on rides, don't climb over barriers, and don't ignore warning signs.
Disney is a magical place where dreams come true. By following these Dos and Don'ts, you'll be able to make the most out of your Disney experience while also staying safe and respectful. Have fun and make unforgettable memories!
